I went in to Best Buy today to look for a crossover for my mid-bass and the guy there didn't even know what a crossover was and he worked in the car stereo department. He asked what I was talking about so I told him it was also called a bass blocker and he still had no clue. I tried explaining it to him and he didn't understand why I wanted to block out certain music from my speakers. Isn't there a minimum knowledge or something required to work in a department there?

That is a common problem with Best Buy. Their standards are really low apparrantly. My brother works for them, and says that many people get hired just becuase they have experience with sales or becuase they know somebody. My bother got the job because he used to go door to door selling news paper subscriptions. They are mainly concerned with the ability to sell, even though there is no commission for the people that work on the floor. The installers at our local Best Buy have a high rate of problems on car alarm instals. Many people come back with problems. They even messed up on my brother's tweeters. I still like Best Buy for their prices though.

the problem is management not the store itself.
i used to work at advance auto and i know alot about cars and i can identify sounds pretty well. when i worked there under the old manager he only hired you if you knew what the different systems of the car were and what was in each one. the guy that replaced him started hiring people who didn't know shit but payed them more so my time was being consumed by these idiot not knowing how to put in a battery windshield wiper or they didn't know what a spark plug was. so i stopped helping them cause customers were getting pissed and i told my manager to train these people on slow days...but he didn't listen so i quit and now all i hear are people complaining that they keep on messing up the order or taking too long to to look for the right part.:disappoin

The problem is I don't think there are any good guys at this store. Which sucks because the nearest Best Buy is over an hour away. My normal car stereo shop didn't have any in stock and wasn't going to get anymore because nobody bought them and they just sat there forever.

I work at Circuit City and people come from Best Buy to our store telling us how big idiots they are (from just about every department). The BB is at the mall right next to the plaza that CC is in. We have a new kid in car audio now who used to work at BB (but not in car audio) and he told us basically they hire just about anyone and most the time the only knowledgable sales people are in the video section, because they need them to sell TVs.

So uh, shop at Circuit City* :D

:werd:

That's where I bought my stuff from. I've been shopping there for over 6 years, so every car audio guy knows me by name. And since most are about my age (1 even graduated from my high school) they know what I'd like and don't like (not that they influence my choice much, if any).

Best Buy also sucks b/c they try to force the customer into buying a warranty. And they're anal about returns.

Stealth- You work for circuit city. I went to my local CC last week and discovered that they stopped selling Kenwood units? Also the online site is only selling one model. Any info on that?

eh no idea why, i dont really browse the site myself though... my guess is they're just trying to get rid of what they have left of that model... chances are it's not available for express pickup and can only be delivered to your house.

Hmm... damn shame.
If only they'd target the real crappy units (Sony) for liquidation...

yeah best buy sucks a mean one. i had them run the power wire for my speakers back when i got my first subs and amp and they ran the wire so there would be absolutely NO slack on the wire itself AND somehow they convinced me to buy some rockford braided wire which they then ran from my amp to the terminal and then kept the rest of the wire for themselves, cheap, incompetent bastards.

now no one does the sound system work on my car but me or the friendly people at my local beat shop.

Anyone who allows a place like Best Buy to install, service or warranty any item deserves what the paid for... NOT MUCH. If you're gonna go to a discount bargain store that runs itself off poor customer service in order to keep their costs down, don't complain about the quality of the work. If you want it done right, take it someplace where they specialize in it.
