Background information; I have these tires and I hate them. The first set of BFG's that I haven't been pleased with over the last decade. To make a long story short, they don't balance well. They are the main suspect of the steering shimmy, shake I have at 55 to 60 mph on my 07 doublecab prerunner. I've been warning others to stay away from this specific size BFG AT since I have read about others with similar issues. At the same time, I've read of others who love them. So I'm asking owners of this specific tire only to post their experiences, good and bad.

I absolutely love these tires for on and off road. I have no problems with vibration and they balanced well. Mine are static balanced with the weights in the center of the rim. what kind of balance did you do?

Discount Tire has balanced and re-balanced my wheels with those stick on weights on the center.
There's the problem...Discount Tire. That's the place I had tons of balancing issues with Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armors. Supposedly several of the 5 tires they tried were defective. A month later I got a complete refund and won't go back to them ever again.

Switched to BFGs and went to the dealership (which agreed to meet the Costco price) and no problems balancing. Discount Tire had problems balancing the tires over and over. So far, everyone I've seen on the forums with tire balance issues went to Discount Tire (called America's Tire Company here on the west coast). So, I really gotta wonder...

They were on my truck when I bought it and I can say that these tires absolutly suck balls if the edges are all rounded off. The previous owner must have done some serious tire spinning in the lava rocks or something cause all four tires have the front side square edges all rounded off. I have ran them, not in this size, on my last truck and thought they were great for a on road tire. Off-road, thay ain't no MT/R or trXus for sure. These tires in the size you are questioning deffinately have a vibration issue. Mine shake from about 20-30mph and then goes away until about 40-50mph were they shake a tad worse. I am going to be removing the TPMS sensors and the weights, painting the wheels and then rebalancing myself with Airsoft pellets and we will see how that is, until I can get my new 17" wheels and 305 MT/R's.

Thanks for the advice. I'm going to try another place, Franklin Tire, here in Yuma. I heard f/ a friend that they're pretty good.

I've had similar issues with BFG AT's 265/75-16. They have been re-balanced and re-balanced and re-balanced again. At 3 different Discount Tire stores, using the cone, a lug centric adapter and also using road force balancing (on a Hunter 9700 machine). Something like 5 tires have been replaced as faulty in the process (requiring 10+ ounces of weigh or just even being visually out of round).
I switched to Yokohama AT's and the problem went away instantaneously. That makes me think that it's not Discount Tires fault, unless BFG just delivers crappy tires to them.

I had started another thread a while ago about this issue with all the details, just search for it. The last balancing before the brand change actually was pretty good, but I was so fed up that I just did not want to deal with it anymore like 5K miles down the road when these tires needed re-balancing or something.
I have to say that the BFG AT's look awesome (better than my Yokohamas), but it just was not worth the hassle to me. The Yokohamas also have a better warranty, and I got $180 back when I switched, so I am happy with going this route.

I've been dealing with Discount Tire as well and don't know if the problem is their balance technique, the BFG ATs themselves, or the truck suspension. I do know that when I had the truck stock with Dunlops there was a problem with one tire. The dealership replaced it and balanced everything perfectly. If you have a good dealership why not give them a try since they should be experts in balancing wheels for our trucks. Most dealerships seem to have the Hunter road force balancer.

This not necessarily a side affect of the tire itself, but poor tire maintenance. Hard cornering, under inflation, lack of rotation can cause all of those issues you described.

You really think that will help? It's just masking the underlying problem, and running the airsoft pellets masks the problems even more.

I am running 285/70/17's that I purchased and had installed at Discount and have had ZERO issues with them. It is sounding more and more like an issue with the BFG's then with Discount's service. They are also very good with price matching and have honored local (Costco) as well as on-line pricing. I couldn't be happier with them. If you have an issue with a specific Discount, I would bring it up with corporate. In my book they are one of the better shops out there.

Got mine at Discount Tire and they needed a couple of tries to balance them. They now have been on for about 10,000 miles and there are no vibrations. Rear TSB has been done and Bilsteins added set at 1.75". No issues period.

I've had these tires for about 11,000 miles. When I bought them, I had two different Big O stores balance them a total of 3 times. It sucked every time. I have since given up on the free balancing that came with the tire purchase. I have had Toyota balance them twice and the results have been much better.

I still have an occasional steering wheel vibe at 55-65 mph, but I don't think it's the tires. My truck did this with the stock tires. I can easily avoid or create the vibe. All I have to do is accelerate quickly up to 55-60 and the steering wheel slightly shakes. If I take it easy and slowly cruise up to hwy speeds, it's totally smooth...

Thanks for the responses fellas. I can see that some are happy with their tires and others have similar issues. I'm going to try one more time to re-balance them at a different shop and will post results.
