bizarre heat box scenario

The pipe coming into the box is hot, the pipe going out is hot, I remove the ductwork from the box, the holes on the pass. side blow hot air, the holes on the driver side of the box blow cab temp. on recycle, cold on fresh. Without taking the box apart I am baffled as to why the holes on one side of the box push warmed air, and the other side of the same box unrefined air. Could this be a core issue, or maybe some blockage in the box?

The only thing I can think of is a problem with the 'door' inside the box which directs the air. Yours is probably moved by a cable from the control panel. If you pull the glove box you should be able to get a better look at the top of the box. (If you can't see it as is) If that's not it then I'm out of ideas. Good luck!
