So I have a 89 Celica ST with a blown head gasket. I don't have to much money invested into the car at this point but I don't have a very big budget to work with either. What I'm trying to decide is whether I should get a repair kit and fix the head gasket (never done before) or try to find a engine to replace it with (never done before either)?

If I do the repair where can I find the Repair Manual and if I do the swap how do I figure out if it is the 8 bolt or 6 bolt 3SFE?

Any and all information is appreciated!

Production date of 05/1989+ has the 8-bolt crank is your car an automatic or manual? Replacing the engine will be easier than pulling the head and replacing the gaskets, neither job is simple or easy. If you want to replace the engine search Ebay for JDM 3SFE, the factory service manual is by far the best the Haynes manual is only acceptable.
