Hey guys, finally got done with the retro a couple nights ago. Started at noon and finished at 4 am. Took a lot of breaks lol.

I ended up only using tools and no extra materials. I bought a 12"x18" sheet of 16 g metal plate that I was going to make a bracket with, 36" threaded rod, and nuts/washers. I ended up using NONE of it.

I just took the plastic pieces that screw onto the adjustment threads and put them on the new projectors. I had to cut the middle black piece to accommodate the 3" lens opposed to the 2.5" it came with. I like the cutoff, it is just as good as the eBay ones. But, the output on the ground is much better. I can only expect better when I get OEM D2S capsules.

Okay, here are the pics!

Had to run these things for a day :headbang:

eBay projectors

The new BMW projectors!

Compare new with old

Ended up not using the shrouds... I let my friend have them. Only to find out they go for $80 on eBay :headbang:

Had to remove the solenoid to fit

Testin the new BMW projectors

Mounted

Andddddd the money shots!

Did you have to remove the solenoid permanently, making them no longer bi-xenon?

Also, I hope that cutoff looks better with the OEM bulbs because I'd be disappointed with that result as it looks like there are still hot spots in the center of the beams.

Otherwise, it looks great, good job!

eBay, $80 shipped :D

Yes, the solenoid was in the way of me mounting it deep. I didn't not want the bi-xenon door. 1)there were no wires for it (I could have easily fixed this. 2) I already have high beams. The camera made it seem like there are heavy hot spots, the output is pretty even. It definitely looks a lot more OEM than the eBay projectors. am about to shoot my friend because he recently sold his Caddy Escalade ballasts and capsules with out telling me...

How much did the total project cost ya?
  • eBay projectors: $180 shipped
  • Replacement D2S capsules (I already had ballasts): $35 shipped
  • BMW projectors: $90 shipped
  • 12 pack Bud Light: $9
  • Experience and learning how to do a retro: priceless

I wouldn't say perfectly. If you look closely at the mounting pics, the bottom adjustment threads go through where the lens brackets attach to the rest of the projector housing. There are 4 screw in each corner, the top 2 are still holding it in. So I drilled out the bottom 2 and slid them in the threads. As for the top, it mounts by a single pivot point. I just took the pivot point off of the eBay projectors and drilled out the hole big enough to accommodate them. I can fully adjust them with the adjustment wheels. ZKW replica lenses are on the way, and I will be doing the washer color mod. :smokin:

are these H4? or do you have to change to D2s bulbs too? also do you run any of the stock Bmw wire on the projector or you just use the projector itself and plug the new bulb in and use it? Thanks

They are D2S capsules. I did not have any BMW wiring. I just used my current HID kit and ordered D2S capsules.

ha those look soooo clean. And I thought my black headlight mod was nice. ha.
Any chance youd ever consider selling pairs of headlights already done for some of us not so skilled?
I guess I could. Be a lot of work and time. But seeing as I am a college student, I don't have that doe to buy all the stuff and wait for profit lol.
