With so many types of units out there which are the best to use with a HL and a two axle trailer?

Most out there (that aren't dirt cheap) will work just fine with 2 axles. I have a Tekonsha Primus IQ, which works up to 3 axles with a boost feature. I think its a really good for the cost. I have zero complaints about it, been using it for the past few months.

Just make sure you get:
1) a non-dirt cheap one
2) Proportional brake controller (aka one with a gyroscope), not time delay

and know that you will have to do a lot of custom wiring to make it work.

I concurr with Sweeney on choosing a Tekonsha brake controller. I have been using a Tekonsha P2 unit for about 3 years with excellent results. I have towed on Interstates, In the Rocky mountains, city traffic in good weather and bad. The brake controller has performed flawlessly under all conditions. I'm only familiar with the P2 and P3 varients. I believe that either of them are capable of handling multiple axle braking systems.
