hello, we have just bought a 2001 Rav4 with 100,000km on it. It is fully loaded and it has ABS. Now my question is, under wet conditions (snow/ice) if u hit the brakes their is a loud grinding noise coming from the pedal as the car is stopping. The pedal also feels like its grinding or hitting rocks or something. My sisters 2001 Echo doesnt do this, it stops smoothly on the dime if u hit the brakes the same way.

anyone else have this problem??

im taking it in to the stealership tomorrow to get it checked out, but if anyone has ideas im willing to listen first.

Thanks

Are you saying it only does this on slippery conditions?
If you're not familiar with ABS there is a sound from the actuator and you will feel the brake pedal pulse when it engages... this is normal.

Now if your problem described happens every time you apply the brakes likely your front pads are worn and possibly the rotors are warped.
the pedal is not pulsing its grinding (feels like rocks are behind the pedal) And its not an actuator noise its a grinding noise. I drive an integra type R and it doesnt do this, my sisters echo doesnt do this, our nissan doesnt do this, and my friends cars dont do this.

plus the rotars and brakes are all new at the front
This Depends On Which Abs System The Rav 4 Uses, If It Is The Bosch Developed Type Your Gonna Hear Alot Of Grinding, But As I Recall The Echo Uses The Toyota Developed Abs System Which Is Operates Very Smooth.
