Broken Hatch Cable??

My manual hatch door will not open on my 2005 Highlander. The unlocked handle goes up but feels like it connects to nothing. Any ideas?
Thank you!

This is probably not your problem but I'll relate a similar experience. The physical key was so worn on the HL I purchased that it would not unlock the hatch. It would lock it but not unlock it when turned. At first, I thought the lock was broken. Had to unlock with the key fob to open the hatch door until I got a new key made from the spare. I'm sure others will be along with more likely ideas soon.

Thank you for responding. It turns both ways. You can feel it either lock or unlock turning it left. One of my grandblessins kept slinging my keys & fob on my lanyard. Fob was old, it broke off & only God knows where that thing is now! Thanks again!

I has been a few years since I had to remove the back panel but as I recall and as it looks, the panel can be removed with the hatch closed. I think you can probably get it repaired by a mechanic or body shop for about 30 minutes worth of shop time and a few fasteners.

Here are a couple of threads related to hatch latch problems that may help.

Thanks for responding CR. I will get it fixed, hopefully soon! Thanks for the other discussions as well. Happy Blessed Thanksgiving.
