Recently when I turn my 95 Previa off, I can here a bubbling noise coming from the dashboard, almost from behind the main counsel. The first idea I had is that the coolant is not right and is cause what's in there to bubble up. Any ideas as to what it might be and what to repair or how expense it would be.

Thanks

Yikes, I hope that's not the case.

I will probably take it in to get looked at tomorrow.

If it is a blown head gasket, does that mean the engine is pretty much done or can it be repaired? Any idea how much a repair would be?

Not sure if it's worth it to hang on to or not.

It's a 95 with 123k on it. Bought it used a couple of months ago and it's pretty running pretty well except for this issue.

Has the van overheated at all? If not then you may get lucky and it just end up being an air pocket making the bubbling sound. You could flush the cooling system and see if anything changes. From what i've read on this forum, if it turns out to be the head gasket the cheapest solution is to by a low mileage jdm engine off ebay and have it put in. Since you're in CA I imagine you could pick one up locally from one of the ebay sellers(several of which seem to be in CA) and save on shipping. Good Luck

Sorry for re-heating an older thread, but I would like to share some similar experience. My wife reported the same problem (bubbling noise). After driving some distance, I noticed a vapour coming out of the front hood. I found out that the coolant cap was missing. A few days earlier I had the engine oil changed at new car Toyota dealer. I was told then that changing power steering oil and changing coolant was recommended (I told them it could be done later). So, the cap for coolant was not put back by the testing mechanic(!). I added about a gallon of new coolant, and closed the reservoir opening with a piece of bicycle tube with its other end folded and tied with electrical tape. This worked for a few days until I got a new cap from the dealer (with profound apologies). cheers, polgyver
