installed a bug deflector on truck yesterday and let me just say that it was much more time consuming then any other i've ever done. my silverados took me maybe 10 min or so if that long to get installed. tundra took me about an hr and i'm still not happy with how it stayed. just lazy to pull off the WHOLE grill off again!

same brand as the others i've used AVS bugdeflector 2. the problem is with the little plastic retainer clips they include. the retainers don't stay where they are supposed to. i have hundreds of nuts and bolts laying around and could not find one to fit the whole in the underside of the hood to set the bug def in place while i put the grill back together. i was not a happy camper and now that the grill is in place the wholes on the bug def and the underside of the hood no longer line up! gonna be a pain in the butt to get that right. any suggestions or similiar probs?

i also changed the oil yesterday. thanks to mhadden i believe for the right up and pics! used 0 20w. we'll see if it act makes a diff on gas mileage like the manual says

Welcome for the DIY writeup:thumbup: Glad I could help, but you won't see an improvement. Remember when at operating temp, its a 20weight...same as 5W20. You'll just have "better protection" at startup.

Sorry about the bug deflector...I think those things are outdated...3M Clear Bra is the way to go...if you lived closer, I'd offer my ClearBra installation services:lol:

Has anyone installed the one from Weathertech? That is the one I'm thinkin of buying, hell every thing that I've bought from them has been awesome!!

Installed an AVS as well

And like you I found it very, very time consuming. It seems to easy in principle.

And like you I found it didn't line up perfectly, I've got about 1/2" to 3/4" pull to the left - because of the premolded tabs.

I just couldn't afford to take another hour to take the dang thing back off.

mine was off about the same amount. i didn't take the grill off but loosened the 5 bolts at the top of the outside of the grill and the six on the inside just enough so i could slide and center the shield with the grill. i didn't worry about the tabs lining up since my fasteners wouldn't stay in anyways. tighten the grill back up. when the hood closes the hood actually keeps the ends of the shield in place. thats gonna have to do for now for mine. just made sure i placed my little rubber protectors in the place where i thought the shield would be most likely to rub on the paint.

i'm sending an email to AVS to let them know whats going on. we'll see if anything comes of it. doubt it.
