I am in the process of buying an '03 Camry but am unsure if a 2.4L 4 cylinder engine will be strong enough & quiet enough, especially as the years go by; am leaning more toward a V6 but would like to hear the voice of experience before I buy.

Thanks in advance.

Do you have a budget? What kind of driving do you do?

Advantages of the V6 - more power, smoother ride, probably last longer.

Disadvantages - higher costs initally, and later on for gas, tuneups, etc.

I recently was in the same predicament but decided that the 4 cyl was strong enough for my needs...but its a 5 speed manual so it that helps a lot. They say that most drivers only need the 4 banger over the V6, so really it's more of a personal preference. My 4 cyl drives just fine, and I although i've been driving V6's all my life, I haven't really noticed a power loss with the 4. (And I saved $5000 which can be put to mods :) ).

I have to agree...i think accord 4banger has won many 'reliable' awards..betten the camrys' i'd choose v6 in a heartbeat. I although own a i4 solara, i wish it were v6...but my wifee disagreed seeing as how i drive (you can't blame her).

No no, trust me...I've never said the Accord is a better car than the Camry. I just liked the looks better but as for torque, quality, refinement, reliability, you can't beat Toyota. My dad has a Camry, I just wanted something that seemed a bit more sportier.

I would suggest anything V6. I was never a fan of anything less.

my gf has the 2.4... imo there is enough power coming out of that engine. the torque off the line will surprise you!

plus there may be a s/c in the works. the scion tc has the same engine and will be releasing a super charger for it this fall i think. hopefully it will fit

anyway... id definitely go with the 2.4. its got spirit, saves gas, costs less and is easier to maintain, weighs less... but id suggest getting 4 wheel disc brakes w/abs (if available). the only thing about my gf's camry that i dont like is its stoppiing power (or lack thereof). i guess im just used to my 4-wheel disc.
