I'm going to look at a used 2000 with 2.4. It has 75000 miles on it. What problems if any should I be looking for in this truck?

There's nothing special to worry about with the 2000 Tacoma. Just check the usual mechanical stuff on a used car for that age and mileage.

The 2.4L 4-cyl. has a timing chain, so no belt to worry about.

Although it doesn't have the belt, I've read that the chain needs replacing at about 130000. Is this so? Are the new Tacomas no longer 300000 mile engines?

I forgot to mention the truck has an automatic transmission. Anything I need to know about that?

They're 300K mi engines from everything I've heard, but you still need to do regular maintenance on them like any car to make them last. Changing a timing chain is regular maintenance at certain intervals. It may last you 300K, but it's just smart to change it when recommended.
