Hi, I have 05 Mtrix XRS and got a problem with CAI. There are no CAI for MAtrix after 03 and I tried to put one on my car but I got the check engine light right away! Then I put the stock intake ena no check engine. I mean I know something about cars, its not me thats messed up. All the installation istructions are fer 03 matrix and there is something different! One of the sensors as not the same. I looked at AEM installation for 03 model sith pics and everything and the sensors are not the same. Any suggestions? PLEASE! I am frustrated already!

It is normal to get CEL right after you install the CAI. I got it as well. My friend in is 2006 XRS got it as well. The simple solution is too disconnect the negative terminal of the battery for 2 - 3 mins and then reconnect and start the car and let it idle for 15 minutes. You will not see the CEL.

The computer is not used to more airflow and that is why it throws a CEL. Once you disconnect the negative terminal, it resets the ECU and it adjusts to the increased airflow.

Another thing is, when you start the car when it is cold, let it idle until the air pump shuts off (it will make sure the catalytic converter is up to optimal temperature).

to get rid of that check engine light, you have to reroute one vacuum line on the throttle body! this does not come with the instructions!!!!!
its a very very easy job but i do not have aby pics to show...i am sure someone will post one to help ya out.

Actually it's the DBW that the 05 & up have for the Matrix. It's known to throw CELs for CAI.

The DBW sensor is reading that it is too lean.

Currently you have to use a SRI such as AEM or K&N if you want to avoid the CEL for the 05 on up.

Thanks, CEL came back on after 30-40 miles. I didn't do the timing as said above so I'll try it that way. And about the vacuum from tha throtle body...I so the line that I'm suppose to disconnect but then I didn't know what to do with it and plugged it back in :) I need more info about it, please. Thanks again for wasting your time with my problems:clap:

Huh???1ZZ-FE is DBW, 2ZZ-GE is not drive-by-wire. Neither the Corolla XRS nor the Matrix XRS.

Only 2003+ Celica GTS were drive-by-wire.

p.s. Yes, just disconnect the negative terminal of the batter. Let it sit for a few minutes and connect it back and tighten the bolt with a wrench. That is it.
