What size is the pipe?? I tried one that had 3 inch piping. My car would fight to start spiting and sputtering and back-firing through the intake. I took the filter of and put my hand over top of the opening and the car started and ran great. I sent back the 3 inch and bought the Injen SRI and the car runs great.

I dont think that the 01-02's were ever meant to run a 3 inch or more SRI.

Any known issues with the K&N 57I kit? I am interested in that because it's cheaper than the Injen, I don't care about looks, and K&N is a trusted brand.

It seems like the diameter of the pipe is too big and the MAF isn't reading enough air going to the throttle. If you reduce the pipe diameter, the problem will go away.
