Calling on Leer camper shell owners

I know there are quite a few owners here. Looking for how the Leer 100XQ or 100XL mounting are on the bed. Are you able to use the bed rails still. Please post picture of the inside if you have one. I am currently in the market for a camper shell and would like to find out the difference between the snugtop super sports and the leer models.

Any feedback of the campers. I've search already and read what I believed all of the camper shell thread hear.

TIA

I have the 100XQ on my DC LB and I like it alot, I am still able to use the factory cleats I just have to unscrew them most of the way and the slide right in. The suggestion I would make is get yourself the sliding fold down front window, I have just the slider and it is somewhat of a pain to clean. Other than that I am very pleased with the overall fit and finish of the 100XQ.

Here ya go redtoy.Leer 100xq with removable front slider. There are 2 mounting points per side which are bolts that thread into nuts that slide into the rail.Your sliding cleats can still be utilized.I believe the snugtop uses 3 mounting points per side and is bolted on the same way.

Thanks for those pics! I actually had the same questions as redtoytaco. I have a 100xl on order right now. I am going to be building a platform for the inside that mounts to the rail cleats. Looks like it will work perfectly after looking at those pics. My bed rug will match good with the headliner also.

jay, thank you for the response. How many anchor points does your shell have? Do you have picture by chance inside and outside?

bwtaco, thank you for your response. Any feedback on the shell good, bad or indifferent?
I have had this leer cap since oct.07 and I'm so far, happy with it. Gotten a lot of compliments from ops and i'm very happy with how the fitment and looks are.The only problems so far have been the rear window/hatch not sealing and the headliner was installed kind of shabby in one of the front corners. Both of these are waiting to be taken care of by the dealer as soon as parts arrive.I also considered the snugtop but getting one to S. Texas was way too expensive;try $2600+.I purchased this 100xq for $1590+tax/incl. opt. and the only option was the front removable sliding window, which I highly reccomend. It makes it much easier and efficient when cleaning the truck's rear window.BTW,this is my 4th leer cap I've owned and the other 3 held up very well.Just keep it waxed especially if the truck is not garaged.Hope this helps!
My leer is the exact same as the one pictured, the pics posted would be about the same as if I where to post them as well.
how easily can the caps be removed?.....im trying to decide between a tonneau cover or a leer cap....any ideas?

The cap is not very difficult to remove. It does weigh about 200lbs and is bulky so you need 2 people to remove/install.There are 4 easy to access bolts to remove and then unplug the wiring harness and thats it.When reinstalling the cap it would probably be a good idea to replace the weatherstripping that goes btwn the bed and cap.You would have to devise some way to store it while it is off of the truck though (sawhorses-wood blocks ect.).Don't know about the tonneau but I would imagine that it would be a 1 person remove/install.
I have had my 100 XL on since Dec. of 05. No problems so far, two very small chips in the paint from the factory but I never did anything about them nor any trouble from them. Get the removable rear slider for ease of cleaning. I had mine carpeted as well and like it. Mine also came with the twist lock single handle for the rear hatch.
I just ordered the 100XL. When it is locked, how secure is it? I will be hauling drums and I hope locking the cap will be enough.
Problems with Leer Shells

This post may come too late for some of you, however, I hope it helps others.
I purchased a Leer 100XQ for my pickup. Looked great and all but the rear glass door didn't close quite right. After three adjustments everything seemed fine. This weekend the door fell completely off shattering on the the tailgate and scratching the paint on my truck. :sosad: Could have been much worse if it caused a wreck. I called the dealer and they said apparently there is a set screw that can work loose and the door can fall off. News to me! The clincher is the shell is 14 months old and out of warranty (despite the three adjustments made under warranty). Tough luck on the truck paint and glass door but I can buy a new door for $ 450.00. No guarantees it won't fall off again though. No thanks Leer won't be buying anything else from you (ever). Something has changed down at the Leer factory for the worse. Moral of the story is: Beware of Leer products, check your set screws (were you told to do that?) and maybe Snugtop is worth the money cause I am out $1000.00 in paint. Maybe more if the door falls off again.
