I just bought a 95 Camry LE 2 door. It has the 2200 engine with 100,000 miles on it.
The car seems to start and runs fine except for the following items I noticed.

#1 there is a slight ping in the engine around 2500 to 3500 RPMs during acceleration or going up hills. Nice and quiet cruising.

#2 under hard acceleration the engine will not rev more than 4500 RPMs. It will sputter and backfire.

The person I bought the car from claims to have just had the timing belt replaced. Does this sound like maybe the belt was not installed properly or is there something else that may be causing this problem?

Thanks,
Jim

and jokes are fine...as long as you have something constructive to say along with it...otherwise, leave the jokes in OT please. the poster was obviously asking a serious question because he has serious concerns :)

There are two or three details involved in the timing belt installation .... they are not obvious .... The online repair manual .. I4 Mechanical Section covers the procedure.
Who performed the TB installation? Did you replace the water pump, as well?
...Replace idler pulley and spring?
Not sure, but you might check that the Cam Position Sensor is correctly installed ... relating to the rpm limiting problem.
