my dad is changing the struts on it but cant get the springs off. we have tried two different compressors and niether of them compress far enough. we are open to any suggestions on how to get them off. i told him to just cut the stupid things and get new springs but he doesnt want to do that...yet.

cut them while they're still compressed??? that's not the best idea in the world.....:disappoin
No, don't cut it while they're still with the shock :thumbdown

It's a 2000. Replacing struts so soon?
Maybe if you unscrew the nut on the top of the piston rod while they're still installed in the car, then slowly jack that corner up? That might get them off, but it'd sure be a bitch to get the new struts in.
good way to take out your knee caps :(

take them to a shop if you can. they should be able to do it for a nominal fee.
