There has been jokes about this in OT, but one company has done it and it's bad ass. Thats Right a carbon fiber rim.

01 Design Systems have developed the first ever Carbon Fiber Rim For sale in Limited productions.

The Rims are performance hand made consisting of a Aluminum Skeleton with a thick overlay of 100% Carbon Compsite. With each rim weight aprox 20lb. Rims are available from 17x7.0 up to 18x9.5 with the offsets ranging from 20MM to 48MM. Some of the bolt patterns are 5x100, 5x114.3 (Camrys for those who are wondering), 5x112, 5x120 and 4x100 and 4x114.3.

The rims are sold as sets and pricing starts at $1500 for 17x7.0

well.......it does have a nice lip....but i think its too much...and at 20lbs each....thats not all that light....my rims way much less than those....even my gf's 18''s wiegh in around that weight also....so for function...this rim fails....for form...cool....but too much....
the 17x7 weigh in at 18lbs while the 18 are 21 I think
isn't that kinda ironic then??....that carbon fiber rims are heavier.....
The outer portion of the rim is why it weighs so much.
We have some going on our Mazda 3 project car for my friends Business. Since the car is a show car, the weight doesn't really matter much. Plus the car is gonna be turboed anyway. Plus they are free since we are sponsored. :p: I like them.
Um... dont consider this anything to do with performance. These wheels are more for looks ... So this thread is moved...
[chandler bing voice] Could those things BE any cooler?[/chandler bing voice]

Clearly not worth it for the performance aspect, but they'd certainly make a show car stand out from the rest of the pack.
that CF rim design is allright, if they came in white somehow :dunno: , i'd probably consider getting it
there heavy becuse the need to renforce the rim.....its not all CF spokes its metal in side just enough to hold a car and CF over it ......if its all CF the wouldn't hold up the car and crack.......correct me if iam worng:thumbdown
unfortunately, tehy are NOT the first cf rims. MRT rims are billet/cf, and weigh almost nothing, except tehy're rally wheels.
Don't forget, CF is brittle, and if they break, your screwed.

The CF is wrapped around the metal. You're not actually riding ON carbon fiber.

I was gonna get sponsored by a company that sells those kind of wheels. Later I found out that they're VOlk Racing Look Alikes and I didn't want to look like a poser with those wheels and discrace my current Volk Racing wheels.

BTW, my wheels are 18x8 GT-N's and they weigh 17lbs.
Good to see that your healthy enough to post again Sport
CF Wheels.... SCARY!!!!! CF dosent flex.. it holds strong until a point.. and then it blows up into ity bitty little shards of Resin and Graphite. i wouldent ride on CF wheels.... knowing that hiting my brakes to hard might brake them
