CD/MP3 player

Hello All.

This is my first post. I hope to be able to contribute to the board as much as possible in the future..

My question is:
I have a 2004 Rav4. The CD/MP3 player has started skipping after a couple of songs lately. Has anyone else had the same problem and how do I go about fixing it??

Thanks for the help

Hey There,

i would suggest getting a can of compressed air and giving that a shot in your cd player. This typically helps with minor cases of dust or hair or whatever else likes to get in there.

I would also suggest testing the CD on a diffrent player to isolate if the problem is the cd or the player. I'm sure you've already done this though

2007 RAV4 CD Player Plays Intermittantly

My CD player worked great after I bought this vehicle used. All of a sudden, it will play a cd intermittantly and then stop.

I tried one of those CD disk cleaners and also sprayed compressed air into the player, but it refuses to play CDs without stopping.

I'm toying with the idea of buying an MP3 player and using that instead of the CD player. Probably a lot cheaper.
Just my humble opinion, but I've had some high end after market car CD players fail after 4 or 5 years, so it wouldn't surprise me if the Toy unit failed in that time also. Usually the laser gets weak, that's why it starts to skip etc. Eventually it just won't play at all. Of course, like some have already suggested, before trashing it you should isolate whether it is the CD, and also try cleaning the laser and pick up lens.
CD Player stops playing

I pulled the unit out of the dashboard and took it inside to have a look at it. I did not see any dust but sprayed some compressed air anyway.

I reconnected it but did not screw it back into the dashboard and tested it on several CDs and could not get it to fail.

So, I reinstalled it and will see if it keeps playing.

I read in another thread that it was suggested to disconnect the battery for 10 minutes. This caused the player to reset. Maybe disconnecting it did the same thing.
