Okay guys, I am confused here. Somebody needs to help me out. I know that I had two seperate people cross reference numbers for me and they both said that 3rd gen Camry's had a 6 bolt flywheel which was compatible with the old 6 bolt 3sfe flywheel.

However, the 3sfe switched over to an 8 bolt crank setup in 91. That led me to believe that the 5sfe should be 8 bolt also. Well I call Fidanza today and I posted on the MR2 forums. The MR2 manual says their 5sfe is 8 bolts and every flywheel that Fidanza sells for the 5sfe is an 8 bolt unit. I am pretty sure I remember some Camry guys having that flywheel though. I don't get it. :whatthe:

Were some of the 5sfe's a 6 bolt crank and the others were an 8 bolt setup? A couple guys with 3rd gens told me they had seen there it for themselves that their cars were 6 bolt. Why is FIdanza selling only 8 bolt flywheels for every version of the 5sfe then? What about the Celica and the 4th gen Camry? Were they 6 bolts or 8 bolts? I am really stumped here. If any of you guys know how many bolts your 3sfe/5sfe crank is or have any answers or theories on this, I am very interested. Especially since I am trying to get rid of a clutchmasters 6 bolt flywheel.

Hmm... I'm confused too.

Going back to the info that I posted before:

Looking at the part numbers it looks like gen 2 Camrys w/3S-FE switched over to a 8 bolt crank in 5/89. 5/89 is a manafacturing date, so it could be a 89 Camry or 90 Camry.

So it looks like 5S-FE's have a 8 bolt crank, but Zoni said his has a 6 bolt crank?

Edit: I just went out and checked the manufacturing date on my gen 2. It was made in 6/88 and it has a 6 bolt crank.

You can try calling Toyota customer service and see if they have an answer.

I am pretty sure the 2nd gen did not switch over to a 8 bolt crank until 1991 or really late 1990 model. In fact, every website I see says the change was on may of 1990. I have a 1990 model and myc ar came with a 6 bolt crank.

I am thinking maybe Zoni saw the wrong thing? I mean every thing I have seen so far leads me to believe that the 5sfe has an 8 bolt crank. Any other 3rd gen guys who have taken their car apart want to chime in on this?

I think I will call customer service. If all 5sfe really are 8 bolt that has made me selling this flywheel oh so much more difficult since it will only fit 2 cars now. 86-89 Celica GT and 87-90 4cyl Camry and neither of those cars have a significant following. :(

Come on one of you 5 speed 2nd gen guys. Buy this flywheel from me. You will neer find another one like it. Nopi even went and took it off their site so the mistake never happens again. You would probbaly have to have clutchmasters make you one for scratch and it will cost 500 dollars. Mine is only 300.
