The lid for my center console seems to have a cracked latch in the lid. It won't open unless I give it a good yank and won't slide forward anymore. The dealership tells me there's no part number for the plastic part just under the lid top, where they said the break has occurred.

I'm just wondering if I can remove the top lid, (is someone knows how it comes off ???). I can open it up and look at what is actually broken in the latching mechanism. It's crazy they don't have a part number for just this part. I thought maybe 5881048620C2 is the part but it's awfully expensive.

Anyone else experience this problem and if so did you manage to get it fixed ?

Yes this recently happened to mine also. I haven't talked to the dealer yet. I just put some tape on the broken plastic latch which has stopped the trouble opening it. Sorry for yours but kinda glad to hear I'm not the only one.

That happened to me about a year about I just get to the dealer and they ordered a new one, it was covered by the warranty.

Interesting topic. A few months ago the console lid on our 21 Venza started to “catch” when opened and it felt like you were breaking it each time you forced it open. I showed the service guy while the car was in and they said they needed to replace it, it should be covered by warranty and they needed to order the part. A few weeks later they call me as the part is in so we set a service appointment. But three days before that appointment the top suddenly works perfectly! I still don’t know what was “catching”!

I took my 2021 Venza XLE in for maintenance and told my tech about the console cover.They had to replace the whole console to fix top.It is under warranty so don't let dealer tell you no.

I'm assuming there still is no part just for the center console lid. The problem with the pins breaking seems to be an issue for a number or people. You can even see used ones on ebay with one broken pin for sale. Would be nice if they actually provided a part or just actually came up with a fix for the problem.

So mine also broke. Dealer said not covered. Part was $1000.00. yes. $265 labor. I called Toyota care and expressed my feelings about using such a cheep part in this car. Toyota covered the part and wanted me to pay the labor. It's fixed now but I fully expect it to brake again

Mines been working just fine for almost 18 months at least 1000+ cycles; open and close it at least 4-6 times every trip to access the seat temp buttons, store the handicapped pass, sunglasses or access the safe.

Not to state the obvious but you do realize that it is a multi-function lid designed with both a slide and lift function. I never press the lever and lift while in the forward position covering the seat temperature controls..i.e. I always press the lever and slide back the lid before lifting and press the lever while closing. I have never just lifted or closed the lid without pressing and holding the lever.....and after reading some of these posts, I don't think that I will try either.

Is there really a need for a latch and can it just be removed?

On two other vehicles we’ve owned, there was no latch, the hinged lid just opened

I had same problem. Contacted dealer. They informed me that the entire console has to be replaced. I had that done under warranty. BIG job. My previous lid has one of the pis broken so I taped it in so the lid would be opened without forcing it till console could be replaced.

I wonder if there’s an easy way to eliminate or lock out the latch so it never engages? That would certainly prevent any issues or dealer involvement in changing out the entire console.

I might be mistaken but I’m thinking that the latch is not really necessary?
