When I bought the truck, if I got over a certain RPM, the belts would squeal. So I changed the belts (both). Was fine til recently (a few hundred miles later). Now they scream, bad, every time I start the truck (when cold, nothing when driving) WTF!?!

22re BTW

tighten the belts just a little. when it's cold there isn't as much friction as when it's warm (like tires) and when you start it there's a lot of inertia difference between the accessories and the engine, so it squeals only then.

bearing noises will be continuous chirping, clicking, squeaking, grinding, etc based on rpm.

Here is something I've seen in the past. The pulleys are glazed over from the belts slipping. Put new belts on and all is OK until the new ones stretch (as normal), then the new belts slip and.....more glazing. I have had to take the belts off and clean the pulleys with lacquer thinner (or similar) to clean them up and then all was fine.

I don't have ac. I have two belts. Haynes tells me to loosen two bolts an pull out to tighten (see illustration), but there isn't an illustration, you know how it tells you '11-6' or something like, It doesn't. I Don't know which two bolts. The ones I believe are on the drivers side. I can get to one real easy, but the other is a real pain. They are over under, but there are quite a few bolts in there. FSM tells me "adjust if loose" I feel retarded, no real explanation.

now this operation should be similar on the 22re and the 3vze. the alternator, and the power steering should both have two holding them to the engine. loosen both bolts for each item (pick one to start with, alt or P/S). one of the bolts should be a "pivot", kinda like a hinge point. On the 3.0, it is the upper bolt on the alternator, and and actually the p/s as well, iirc. Leave this bolt snug, but not tight. the loosen until you can swing the alternator (I.e., it swings on the upper, pivot bolt) now keep the wrench handy, and either use your muscles, or gently use a pry bar to tighten up the belt. hold the pry bar (if used) to keep tension on the belt, and tighten the lower bolt. release your physical pressure (muscles or pry bar). check tension on belt again. If ok, tighten the pivot bolt. repeat for the power steering. the pulleys only need to come off, if you are replacing the power steering pump itself (most replacement alternators come with one installed. maybe, one day, I will post pics or a video. just not today. and welcome to the nation

why did you take off the pulley?

the alternator is what tightens the waterpump/fan/alt belt.

the idler pulley on the P/S, the bolt tights the belt.

the idler pulley on the A/C, the bottom bolt down under tightens the belt.

let us know

Jayota: yes.

Rivithead: Thanks, and I'm just getting back into the game!

Dont take it the wrong way :)

Im just surprised as removing the pulleys is more work then just loosening the adjusters (the two main bolts holding the p/s pump and alt).

I didn't clearly see any adjustment bolts. So, you're telling me the idler pulley that I pulled off tightens the belt? I was affraid to tighten that one too much when putting it back on. So, I'm just gonna go tighten it up and hopefully it actually tightens (I have a fear that I will break it) lol

which accessory are you referring to?

The alt is mounted with two bolts, one is fixed and is the pivot and the other is the bolt that (when both are loosened) will slide side to side to adjust tension.

The power steering pump is the same deal.

The a/c uses a long bolt that you tighten to take up the slack, but be careful if you have a looser aftermarket belt. I ended up snapping my bolt that way.
