2013 Toyota Venza v6

The Venza is giving me a message that the transponder battery needs changing
and to see the dealer.
Can I just pry it open with a small flat screwdiver?
Yes, you can change it yourself. You don't even need a screwdriver. Just take out the car key from the key fob by pressing the black thing that says push and pull out the key and right near where the key comes out there should be a horizontal opening and you just use that key that you just took out from the fob and you can very easily open it with that and change the battery. If you want I can make a video, its very simple.

EDIT: I found a video that you could follow which is simple, what I was going to show you anyways.
