Hello,

I need to charge my A/C and I cannot find the spot to do it under my hood. I searched the forum and didn't see anything that would help me find the spot. Does anyone have a picture of where the spot is to attach the can to recharge the A/C?

Do you still have some charge in the system? Do you know where it is leaking? How much time has elapsed since your AC worked ok? Do you have an AC vacuum pump and a set of gages? Do you know how much refrigerant your system holds? Did you lose any compressor oil? Do you know what type of compressor oil your car needs? You need the answers to all of these questions before you worry about where to connect your can.

Artbuc, First of all your post reads like your a drill sarg yelling at a new recruit. You could have asked in a better way. I understand what ur saying in ur post but dang if i was the OP and read that i wouldnt reply to you.

And to answer the OP's question if they haven't moved it since 96 it should be right behind drivers side headlight.

I don't care if the OP responds or not. Anyone with a DIY charge kit asking where to connect it is a danger to himself and perhaps others. The questions I posed are important ones. I wasn't being rude, just straightforward. I didn't say "Hey Dumba$$, you have no idea what you are doing". Give me a break. I would pose similar questions if someone came on here and asked " Can anyone tell me where the brake calipers are. I just bought some pads and I want to install them." I didn't make this personal but you sure are.

Ford Escort VERY HIGH A/C Pressure!

I got a re-chill kit to inject some Refrig into the low pressure port of my '99 Escort today. Before trying to recharge, I checked the pressure with the guage. I started the engine, turned on the A/C to max, and installed the guage hose to the low pressure port. The needle swayed back and forth around 50 psi, then SHOT up to the red to 80 psi and blew the gauge attachment off the car! The needle had pegged at 80 psi. What could possibly cause this to happen?

I won't turn the A/C on now until THIS gets fixed. I noticed the A/C would run well for a minute, possibly two minutes, then be gone and feel just ambient air coming from the vents. Then it would come back after more rpms were given to the engine.

If you look at my posts you will see that I always try to help people do their DIY thing if I happen to know something which will help. I seek help more than I give so getting help from others is very important to me. Part of helping people is telling them straightup if it appears they are trying to do something well beyond their scope, especially if it has safety implications. My only point was how you responded to (sonic2wb). It was alittle over the top, all he said was you could have asked nicer, which is true. The way your post reads its pretty much saying "Don't do it, you are dumb unless you know every aspect of your vehicle".

OP: The low side connector, atleast on my car is right against the Firewall on the passenger side of the car. It should have a Grey cap. But before you add anymore, what is the A/C doing?
Is the clutch kicking in and out?
Does the A/C get cool but not cold?

Your A/C may need other attention other than just adding Freon.

Thanks. I think what are seeing here is the product of modern day education where the number one objective is to nurture self-esteem. It doesn't matter if you do your homework or flunk the test. As long as you are trying or have a good excuse, all will be forgiven. We are all special.

IMHO, if you don't know enough to find the low side service valve, you should NOT attempt to recharge your system. Period. All the sugar coat in the world will not change the basic facts.

Help my outside unit is not working

Randomly replacing new parts in hope that you get lucky and find the culprit is rediculous. Now you just introduced 3 new variables which will impede your ability to narrow down the problem.

(ex: not only do you have a malfunctioning system, but now you may have a malfunctioning system with a suspect thermostat.)

Although this forum is DIY, this is a good time to seek out help from the pros. A HP can controlled via jumper wires at the control board which will simulate the operation of the thermostat. That's a better way of determining is the problem is related to the thermostats ability to control the system.

Because the only thing he can do is quote other peoples mistakes. Im not sure what he is trying to do. Anything under the hood can cause someone to hurt them self or something unknown to happen, thats the chance people take. Maybe he owns a shop or something and only wants more people to take there cars to shops instead of acutally trying to learn something and do it them self. If you dont like that he is trying to do something himself, then just leave him be. Maybe he will fix the problem, or damage something else, thats the chance he is taking.
