OUt the blu, my 2000 SOlara (4-cly) check engine lights pops on when I went to work this morning. Just got back from AutoZone which did the "free Diagnostic reading" on my codes. Here's what they got.


P0440
Evaporative Emission
Control System Mal-Function

p0441
Evap Emission system
Incorrect Purge Flow

P0446
Evap Emission Control Sys
Vent Control Circuit Malfunction

I asked the dude as much as I can, he kept telling me to get a full diagnosis on the car. ($80) =(

Does ne one know what this means and what I can do to fix it/reset it? OR what could possibly made this happen? I DID NOT refill the gas this morning. I refilled since like last week or so. Ne ways... THe car feels fine and normal as ever. I think it's jsut a bunch of emission crap sensors fludging off. BUt help me out!~

could be as simple as loose gas cap.

Yeah, i checked the gas cap and it's securely on.

Hmm, I'm reading that other forum topic u gave me and every one seems to have received this letter regarding a similar problem I am having, but I didn't receive it. and plus, my "general 3-year or 30,000 mile warranty" ran out in february.

And also, I'm reading http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=30065

and in there, it states cars from 96-98... Was 99+ added on afterwards?

Do i still qualify for the warranty? Even though my SOlara is a 2000?

if you checkout www.alldata.com, the same issue is mentioned for subseqent years. If the dealer gives you a hard time, just buy the report from AllData for your car and slap the service manager across the face with it.

Haha, I would defiantly will if the dealership is a butt head.

Ne ways, guess what I did? I took off the negative battery for about 15 minutes to resest whatever needed to be reset and I just turned on the engine 4 different times with-in 10 minutes and NO MORE CHeck Engine Light. Hopefully it stays like that and doesn't come on tomarrow morning before work.

I have a '99 Rolla and I just had my clutch done and when I drove away from the lot the check engine light came on. I took it back and they got this same error code above. The opened the hood, switched two hoses and then it worked fine. The explanation I got was that the sensor for oxy/fuel was reading too rich and this causes the Purge Flow error. I was trying to see which ones he switched, but I couldn't tell b/c he did it so quick. Hope this helps.

Hmm, thanks for the tip.

Yeah, it's been several days now. And after disconnecting that negative cable to the battery for a few minutes did the trick. So far, no check engine light. Odd....

Did your light ever re-appear?? I'm asking because.......

I have a 2000 Camry LE with a V6 and an automatic transmission. I have 43,000 miles on the car. My check engine light came on in 5/04. I went to Autozone like you did and they told me I had the same codes that you are getting... the P0440, P0441, and the P0446. The told me the gas cap was loose. I didn't believe it as I am alway careful to tighten the cap and make sure it clicks. Anyway, they reset the computer. After three days the light came back on. I went back to Autozone. They told me it could take 1 or two tanks of gas before the light stayed off. They reset the computer again. Three days later the light came on. I decided to wait a couple weeks to see if the light went off on its own. It did. Just a couple of weeks ago the light came on, again. I went to Autozone. They told me it was a loose gas cap, again. The scan tool showed the same codes as last time.....the P0440, P0441, and the P0446. I am 100% sure that the cap was tight. I have been extremally careful, especially after what happened to me in May. Anyway, Autozone reset the computer for me. I decided to go to the Toyota dealer and buy a new cap. It cost $15.00. I filled the gas tank and put the new cap on. The next day the check engine light came on again. I drove a few (4)days with the light on. I decided to go to different Autozone last night (09/26/04) and have the light reset again. Today is 09/27/04. The light didn't come on on my way to work. I expect it will come on within the newt two days.

it came back on after almost a week.

its some "purge" valve that cost about $40 and $150 labor to replace. so ass.

i just did it. Lol
