Can someone clear this up with me?? I heard this rumor that tacos have GM made or chevy engines inside. I was arguing with someone cause he was telling me that I didn't buy a foreign truck. Is this true??? I mean I bought toyota because of the reputation of strong long lasting engine.

The truck is assembled in the U.S. but it is a Japan built motor. The tranny is built in the U.S. I think? But they are overseem by Toyota QA. So it is still a Toyota!

See i know some of that stuff. I know that when I was checking out the truck at the dealership that it had a percentage of parts from japan. I think this guy I was arguing with was just jealous cause he got a crappy dodge ram truck

It's interesting, I was reading study the other day that people with the Matrix have given the vehicle a much higher rating for quality than that of the owners of the vibe. From what I read they are almost identicle in every way.

Dodge makes/developed the V8 that Toyota runs in it's Nascar Truck. That was known way before the Toyota truck was even on the Nascar circuit.

Toyota's V8 uses an OHC, and Nascar rules call for push-rod engines only.

I do know that the drive shaft assembly is a GM made part. Probably why it is a POS.

The drive shaft is a Dana Spicer shaft, it's stamped right on it. It's not a GM shaft. Dana Inc. is a supplier of automotive parts to many companies, not just GM. Dana also builds our frames.

The Tacoma is being built in the NUMMI plant in Fremont, CA. This year they'll be producing some 146,000 vehicles. They'll be selling some 146,000 vehicles. So for the '05, for which they are looking for a bigger piece of the market, they are adding additional capacity at a new plant in Baja, Mexico.

I bet those numbers are even higher now since Toyota ramped up production to meet demand near the end of 05. I bet there are a lot of guys that have no idea their truck was built in Mexico. Check your VIN if you want to know for sure.
