Hello. I was replacing the cigarette lighter in my 08 with a hardwired usb replacement. I wanted to get confirmation that the blue wire is the hot and should be going the positive post on the new usb item. The wiring in the kit is black and red so I would use the red for this purpose with the black to black being negative or the ground.

The post title threw me off since I had wondered what was funny about the cigarette lighter. Anyway, blue wire is 12V, black wire is GND.

I had changed it out to a USB charger w/voltmeter a few years ago here. The flap has since broken off and couldn't find a replacement, so switched out to a regular one without meter that has more durable flap made of rubber instead of plastic.

A meter rules when in doubt. It confirms its live assuming the fuse for it is pre installed.

LOL. I guess the laughter is on me. Thanks for the clarification. I was running the volt meter but wanted to co from what I was seeing before moving forward. Thanks a bunch to both of you.
