Well, this is bugging my friend with the el camino, my brother, and I. Before, my friend in his el camino, he raced a 1998(bare with me, i dont really know the egzact years) Honda Civic SI, which that civic had the HARDESS TIME trying to catch up.

Now another civic, the very same guy I hate with a passion with his 1990 honda civic raced my friends El Camino with a corvette engine. (Its obviously a corvette engine, he leaves the hood off because it wont fit.) the thing is when he raced the civic HE LOST by a bumper length.

My question is, A 1990 honda civic with i ASSUME has an SI engine, what does it sound like with the nitrus. My friend in the El camino said he heard like a loud sound like it was turbo but different. I dont know the sounds of nitrus, or even if it makes sounds like turbos do. help us out here, because before they raced, the guy with the civic, said out of no where, "lets race, dont worry man i don't spray. Its all motor". which made me think he did. makes me think twice before i try to race him.... i think he cheated but my friends elcamino TECHNICALLY kept up still... yet i could be wrong.. PLEASE CORRECT ME IF YOU CAN...

There's your first mistake. Of all cars, a Honda Civic is probably one of the most likely to have a different motor swapped. He could have easily had an H22 under the hood which would probably put him in the 13s alone.

Now let me also say this: unless these are heavily modified civics, or the el camino spins through every gear, there's no way they could hang with an LT1 in the el camino.

All motor cars don't make turbo sounds. He was either spraying, or he's running a fairly large turbo. Not sure if this all made sense cause I just woke up - I might have to edit later.

yeah he might be spraying and most honduh owners swap their motors out anyway and he might have been spraying next time check before you race that's what i do. and you better make that tercel fast cause i want to hear about it

When I was at Tuner Bash in May, there was a lot of cars there that got dynoed with nitrous. And when they ran the nitrous you really couldn't hear it over the motor

that's usually nitrous...



also, what kind of Corvette engine does he have..?

thats the kind of "politics" i used to really hate in the racing scene.....i'm old school and a firm believer of "run what u brung"...who cares what they have or not have...if they are faster then you are....thats ur motivation go faster.....a civic with NOS is no more cheating than ur buddy's EL camino with his vette motor....theres always somebody faster is something that i've grown accustomed to over the years....

and btw...take it to the track....numbers don't lie....

besides, some of the fastest "STREET" cars are Civic's geting Force Fead Air fuel and NO2.

My friends +/-300hp NA gsr Teg could give my +550hp NA C3 Vette a run for its money. I was pulling on him with every shift but he'd pull to my back bumper 1st - 4th once he hit vtec, in 5th with vtec he was right up along side me. Its all about weight, thats the greatest advantage a civic or any other compact has.

your buddies elcamino probably weighs 2x more than the teg and if he had the tailgate up and no cap/cover it would be alot of unneccessary drag.

i could see if he had some nice bolt ons and a good engine it could happen

Yeah even if it was a d17 (ex motor) it could handle NX or something.....But if it was a b16a (witch is an awesome swap for 90 hatchies) it could probly hold a 75 shot easy...just with pulleys and CAI....Easy so i mean around here all the b16 swpa are running low 15's and with nitrous they could be low 14's

You very easily could have gotten beaten by a light @ss 90 Civic wih a swap. Say he put in a Type R engine and modded it pretty decently. That would give a heavy El Camino a run for it' money no matter what was done to it(for the most part).

The sound you heard was probably VTEC hitting, you'd hear it in every gear starting around 6000 rpm. Nos is usually set up to hit in second gear at WOT. If he's running a B16 (99-00 Si or SiR engine) then he's got 160HP stock. But for all you know, he could be running a B18C5 (Type-R engine) making at least 195HP.

As for the 'Corvette Engine', which one? LS6, LS1, LT1, LT4, LT5, L98, L88, LT-1, etc. They all make different numbers, some weak ass Vettes from the '70s made a whopping 135HP, others push 435 for smallblocks and well over 500 for bigblocks.

Damn, well i dont have much time to type alot, but the el camino, i dont know what year or actually i dont know chevyes that well at all. my friend put three grand into the engine, so i figured he did a hole SH*t load of things to it... cheating, Its not cheating to have nitrus, its just that the dude with the civic said he wanted to race all motor. thats all the el camino had, it was the same day he took off the nitrus off the camino....

How fast do you gotta be going to use 5th in a drag?

It was on an abandon runway at a sanctioned top speed event and we hit about 150mph, I top out at 180 in 4th with a 3.73 rear.

if you want to kill Civics with an amarica car, get ither a 5.0 Mustang with plenty of work done to it. or a 1990's ford tarus SHO and bolt on a super charger. those are about the most potant Civic Killers i know.
