2016 RAV4. My wife had a remote start installed. Works great, but only problem is the climate control does not stay where it was after the car is shut off. So, if you leave the heat on and shut the car off, it resets to basically no heat no a/c, driver has to pick a mode. Like, no selection at all is the default. Naturally, not preferred when you use remote start to heat the car up when it’s 15 below, but the heat mode is not activated. Anyone have any ideas on how to change this?

Thanks!

An aftermarket remote start is going to be limited. HVAC functions may not be available when the ignition switch is in the off/locked position. Factory remote starts function through the BCM and PCM so the HVAC systems can be turned on.
In all the vehicles I've owned, the vehicle starts at the setting when it was shut off. Did this "issue" happen prior to the remote start install?
I have a F-150 with factory remote start and in the customization settings you can choose previous setting or auto in the remote start preferences. In "Auto", it will heat or cool the cabin based on temperature regardless of the driver's settings. If it's below 40 it will turn on the front and rear defrosters, side mirror defrosters, driver's heated seat, and heated steering wheel. On previous setting it won't do any of those things.

Best of all, it doesn't shut down when you unlock the door.
