Clunking sound when turning

Hi,

I have Camry 2004. occasionally I hear a clunking sound when turning. It sounds like I am dragging a metal pipe on the road but no pipe came off. I can't really pin point where the sound originates. I took the car to the dealer when I had the warranty. He test drove the car, jacked it up and checked the wheels. Because this sound only comes on occasionally, the mechanic couldn't hear it and told me to ignore it.

Now that I am out of warranty, I am still hearing the sound once in a while particularly when the weather gets better. Any suggestion is greatly appreciated.

time for a new cv joint. what you're describing is common on front wheel drive cars. I'd find a new mechanic to work on that car, your dealership doesn't sound capable of diagnosing common problems.
^ For real, if your mechanic couldn't even diagnose the CV joint, I think he/ or she, needs to get the boot.

Not being able to diagnose the problem is bad enough, but asking you to ignore a sound/noise that come intermittently is just outrages. He should be fired.
Am i the only one that thinks its the intermediate shaft clunk?

Sounds like an intermediate shaft.

Yea, my grandfathers old gen 5.5 did that. You could feel and hear the clunk when you turned the wheel.
