So, I guess this all started a few months ago. Whenever I'd put in the clutch, there would be a sound (as if two somethings were rubbing together) that would follow with the RPMs. I was told it was nothing to worry about. I believed them, until a couple of days ago...

I'm sitting at a light, windows down, when I hear a constant, low squealing sound. It went away when I'd put in the clutch...

Yesterday, I'm driving home from work. I put in the clutch after sitting at a red light, and the whole car starts to shudder, as if I were in gear but not giving it enough gas. The shifter's in neutral, and the clutch is in... Then, it died. From then on, there has been this horrendous squealing all the time, I can't put in the clutch for more than a couple of seconds without the car dieing, and it's REDICULOUSLY difficult to get moving.

I've taken to only using the clutch to downshift and to get into first, clutchless shifting otherwise. I need to know if there's something I can do to temporarily stall this seemingly inevitable destruction of my clutch. I don't even know where to check any fluid that needs checking, or anything like that.

Anyway, sorry about the long post and thanks in advance for any and all help you guys have!

yeah, your clutch is going. There is a clutch fluid resevoir, but i don't know what car you have so i don't knwo where to tell you to look. But i'd say fix the clutch right away.. clutchless shifting might end up ruining your gearing too.

Oh sh*te! Sorry. It's an '01 GT. Celica, obviously. With 138,000 miles... :cursin:

What can I say, I like to road trip, and I guess it's time for a new clutch. Thanks for letting me know. I would like to know where the reservoir is, but I'm just gonna go get a Haynes today, since I'm already replacing the alt in my '89 22R. Thanks again!

release bearing is locked up and its grinding the fingers off the pressure plate
I agree with fredk. It sounds like your release bearing is locked up. I don't think you would need a new clutch. However you may need to buy a clutch kit just to get the pressure plate depending on how much damage has been done to it. You might be able to find a wrecked Celica with the parts you need for the low low. I always say newer is better when it comes to engine parts though. Good luck and keep us informed on the prgess of gettin her back on the road.

Yeah, I'll have to agree, the newer it is, the longer (hopefully) until it needs replacing again, and therefore the better. It's gonne be another paycheck before anything happens, but I'll keep up here. Thanks for the info, BTW.
