So I'm about to buy some 1" coil spacers for my truck to compensate for my new add-a-leafs in the rear. I've heard pros and cons about the spacers but no real concensus on whether they are good or bad or any long-term problems with 'em. If anyone has any experience using these to lift your truck I'd love to hear what you have to say. So far I've heard they're really good with very few problems or really bad and quickly wear out cv joints and coils.

Also, would replacement coils be a better choice for some lift? My truck's got a little over a 100k and 9 years on its current springs and they're starting to sag a little. Thanks for the input. :)

spacers will make it stiffer, that's about it. any way you lift it will wear cv boots, as it is still going to put the axles at an angle wither way. a one inch spacer isn't going to ruin your ride but, bilstein 5100's set on the .85" setting would be a much better option, they ride very well and are cheap.

Thanks for the info. I couldn't find the bilsteins for my truck though. The website only had them for an '05 tacoma. Anyone know if they make them for a '99? They sound like a much better option than spacers.

Hey 6shooter-
I just read your reply about the spacers and noticed your Taco mods. I am trying to sort thru the various front suspension configs for my 02' and am wondering how you like your setup and if you use it for a bit of rock crawling? If I am reading you mods correctly, you are using EMU 886 coils with bilstein 5100's and total chaos upper control arms. I am leaning toward the same setup although I'm not sure about what coils would work best for my purposes. What height do you have the bilsteins adjusted to? Also, does AAL mean ARB auto-lockers? I am planning on installing this as well in the front. Love to hear your opinion.

i love my current setup. the 5100's are on the stock setting. i chose 886 coils because of the added weight of the plate bumper and winch. if you don't have those things, i would suggest 885 coils. the coils will give you about 3" of lift, and stiffen the ride. the 5100's will give you back that plushness you lost by adding the springs-those bilsteins really ride well. the total chaos upper control arms are amazing too-after running without them for so long it was like a new truck when i put them on and aligned it. they allowed the truck to be very easily aligned back into stock specs. it now feels as solid as can be and no longer floats at higher speeds or wanders. i honestly think that it rides and drives better then it did when it was stock. i think this is a very nice setup for the money.
the AAL's are add a leafs in the rear.

Thank you for the reply. I'm going nuts trying to nail down the components! That is great to hear! I have always liked bilsteins and in previous vehicles they have proved pretty bullet-proof. With the 3 inches you get from the coils, did you spacer the diff to reduce angle? Do you see any problems with any suspension components due to the increased droop angle? I am trying to get as much articulation/travel as possible with the 3" max lift. Is the setup soft enough to get full travel in rockcrawling situations? I am curious if you have considered/researched the toytec coilovers or the Kings? A lot of questions, I know :)
