I had to put another head gasket on my '86 (Cal. engine) 22R. I runs well except the engine idles rough. No vac leaks, everything is right on otherwise. The WARM compression test is as follows:
#1=150 PSI
#2=125PSI
#3=125PSI
#4=155PSI
Engine is stock, 1 1/2 years on rebuild, head was rebuilt (reground valves, bronze guides, rewelded galvanically corroded passages & resurfaced).
I did the rebuild work myself. ALL new parts. Block was resurfaced and head was re-torqued after a few hundred miles and it still leaked coolant from the front-left corner. It used coolant regularly and then really subdied after the caltrates and rust plugged the way out. It ran smooth as a sewing machine until lately. It just idles rough and I can hear a "rythmic" miss in the tailpipe. Uses NO oil between changes. All ignition-related items have been replaced new. When cranking the starter, the engine does sound a little "unbalanced" (not consistantly against the engine compression) but not too bad. I just have a trained ear when it comes to engine noises. There is no exhaust smell in the radiator and the tailpipe is dry.
I know the specs call for 171PSI.
Do the above readings seem too out of spec?
I think my dilemma is attributable to the head. Anyone else concurr?
Thanx
