computer controlled customization

I recently had my recirc button changed to manual "on" rather that automatic, after going through a couple of dealerships just to get someone to look at doing this.
Why not give the car owners the option of changing their own computer settings, and suppling a list of all the customization options available in the owners manual for instance? From what I could see of the computer screen, there are many options for all the major control systems of the car. Some obviously, you don't want customers messing with but others like the one I changed could be left to the car owner to change.
Traction control on only when the car is in motion is another change I would make.
Any other ideas for customization options?

Let us hack into the nav to override.
Hi all , this isn't a customization feature , but one of my big complaints is not being able to see the artist and song title when playing the radio.
It's probably a GM thing , but after spending as much as I did for this car Toyota's should have this feature.
Yes, I agree. Anyone out there got their hands on the Toyota T/S laptop and can give us a listing of the available changes possible, please? TIA
there are plenty but I can only remember a few that I did to my car: like turn off the DRL (Daytime Running Lights), turned on a feature that locks the doors after 20 seconds, and changed the feature that locks the doors when U shift into gear, to "lock after the car reaches 10 mph"... there are a few more but I can't remember what they are.
Leokillz.

Why would you want your DRLs turned off? They are a great safety device.
Well the 1st reason I took them off was because I wanted to add H.I.D.'S to my High Beams; and if U don't take them off they will blink till they die.

And also I don't think it is too safe either; I've seen more than one driver not turn on they're lights because they see they're headlights on, but they're tail lights are off, very Dangerous.

I am sorry I do not understand the second paragraph about drivers not turning on their lights. To us the great daylight running lights was one of the big safety features the Venza offered. Maybe we just don't get it, so we would be very interested in your thoughts. In an era of car paint colors that match/blend with pavement colors, we would think anything that made an approaching car visible would be a big safety bonus. Wyovenza
If the lights are left in the DRL on position, IE "Auto", you don't have to turn your lights on. The car does it for you. In Canada, DRLs have been mandatory for 10 years or so. All cars have them and they definately are a safety feature! Before they were available on cars, I always rode my motorcycle with the headlight on for better visibility. It's much safer, especially in crappy weather.

Well, not ALL vehicles come with "AUTO On" but still have the "DRL". For example my buddy's 2008 RAV4 has "DRL" and no "Auto On", and I've had to tell him to turn his lights on a couple of times.

But this is the Venza forum

Are you sure about that? I realize you don't have a nav system, but the default on the cars with nav is, when you push the "audio button", for the screen to go back to the map after displaying audio information for a few seconds.

This default can be reset by drilling down into the preferences options on the display. I ran across a thread on that a few months ago. That may be the case for non-nav cars as well.

Good Luck.
Here's the link for the "how to" changing the nav display:

Hopefully, there is something simial for the non-nav radios.
set temps below 18.5 C

Here's another change I would like to see. Don't know why I didn't notice this last winter, but I can't set a temp below 18.5 degrees C (65 F). If I try then it goes to LO(W) or max low temp. Well 18.5 is a bit too warm and max low is a bit too cold on some days. Is there any way to set the temp a few degrees below 18.5 or 65 F ?
DRL's are the essentially the same thing as simply leaving on what used to be called your running lights, that is, your frontal turn signals when on low power, on, anything to garner attention to yourself to prevent head on collisions - provides some percentage higher avoidance than without them being on.

HOWEVER, turning them on does NOT bring up your rear lights at all, which are required ON during foul weather here in my state, and it has been my experience that the AUTO feature does not bring your lighting systems on unless the light levels are low enough, so, you are dark in the rear as many peeps will assume since DRL is on, so are their rear lights. They are not. If one uses the AUTO mode and it is not dark enough to bring on your lighting, you must shift from AUTO to ON going through a complete OFF position to get both front and rear lighting up. Weird choice of them to make on the switching matrix IMHO.

I defaulted the DRL's off to run HID High Beams as well. Toyota should have made the DRL a function of the turn signal assy using yet another bulb instead of co-opting the High Beam function for at least this reason: 9005, H11 (Fog beams), etc. are filament bulbs and they have a finite life in hours, regardless of power output. Tungsten depletes at a standard rate when heated inversely to the current used, so your High Beams will fail early if DRL is used continuously. I'd rather not run out of High Beam.

What I did do ILO DRL's on the High Beams was to default the front turn signals operable at low power (using a relay and several diodes to both drop the voltage to them and block reverse current when they are placed ON by the lighting system) whenever ignition is on since that option has been left out of the Lighting scheme on the Venza.

My venza's left-hand lever has the light functions on it, and one of them is "DRL Off". When the lighting switch is set to DRL Off, I'd expect the lights to be off, and they are. Is there something different about my venza? How is it that you guys have running lights on when I don't? Do your venzas NOT have the DRL Off switch setting?

Please clarify!
In Canada, DRLs are mandatory. Therefore we cannot turn them off. I never touch the light switches in the venza cause I find that they turn on and off at about the same time I would do that. I also like the way the dash lights compensate automatically too.

Any takers on my post from yesterday? Any way to choose a cabin temp below 18.5 C (65 F), but not as cold as outside temp? Does anyone have experience with other auto climate systems that offer more temps below
65 F? Just wondering if this is an industry standard. If so I'd say it's a shortcoming for the auto climate system. I think I like the manual blue/red (cold/hot) scale since you can choose any temp in between.
Venzoid - on the sunny but cool days I just do everything manually as I find the 18.5 too high as well. I go to low temp, turn off the recirc, switch the air pattern to either vent (face level) or bi-level (cool air at feet and through the defog vents around the windshield, then set the fan speed.

Our 2009 I4 has the DRL Off position too. However I ignore that switch position. The "Auto" position gives me everything I want. Auto lights when it is dark and the safety of DRL's in the daytime. I do not always like "Auto" anything but this Toyota design really works, so I just leave it there. Not sure I knew there was a DRL OFF position until you ask about it. Many thanks for bringing it to my attention. Wyovenza

Anyone had their if the auto lights sensitivity adjusted by the dealer? I find mine come on a bit late into dusk.
