Hello everyone,

Im new to the forum and happy to be here. I’m not a mechanic but capable of doing some basic maintenance.

I acquired the 05 HL few years ago from the original owner who semi took care of it. It has 70k miles on odometer.

I do like my HL. It has been good to me and I only drive it as a family weekend car/hwy commuter. My daily driver is the Mitsubishi Mirage. Obviously different for it own purpose.

Anyways, the tires are Bridgestone Ecopia 422 and they are now 6 years old showing thread life of 4/32. Now is a good time research for replacement.

My question is “Would downsizing wheel size from 17” to 16” be beneficial or problematic as far as MPG, handling, braking, and performance?”

I want and do find stock rims from the 1st gen hybrid variant available for sale near by me. I really like them. Look much better than the stock variants.

I thought going from 17” to 16” wouldn’t be problem since I’m taking the OEM/MPG route…But I could be wrong.

what do you think?

Hybrids have 17x6.5” rims. Ditched my 16” wheels when I did the dual piston caliper upgrade and haven’t looked back. More tire selection, slightly better handling and no comfort loss. MPG did not change at all.

If you want some MPG gains don’t buy the stock rims, they’re heavy. My 16”s were still heavy and the 18x8” RX350 rims I use for my summers are nearly 30 lbs each.
