We just got an 08 HL Limited and it has the same problem our 05 4R had. The cigarette lighters all go off after turning the vehicle off. We would like at least one of them to remain hot so that we can charge a cell phone while the vehicle is off. We camp a lot and sometimes that is all the power we have :) I have read in other forums for other Toyotas that I could jumper a wire on the lighter relay and possibly get the job done, but I am not sure which terminals to use. I am confident that I can find the relay, just not which terminals to jumper across. Is there another way to do this, or is everyone else just fine with no juice?

Thanks, Brian

I read that some of the new Toyotas have the intelligent sensing plug that senses you have something plugged in and either leaves it on for a set time or until a certain discharge is given. I tested mine today on both plugs, but no go. It is sad that they can not give that feature throughout the lineups.

(LIMITED W/SMART KEY) I'm also disappointed, even the one in the back. If you plug in your cooler in summer and park for a while, your stuff will not be cool. I found out that even if you have on accessory and plug something in, it still shuts off after "x" minutes. Because I plugged in something, push button (smart key) for accessory and can back later to find it had shut-off on me. On my last highlander (05') I ran a direct power off battery (w/in-line fuse) and powered all lighter plugs. Sure was handy to have them live all the time.

I actually haven't seen the one in the back, I need to take a closer look. By accessory do you mean just hitting the start button once? I didn't realize that it would shut off after a while. I will have to test that, good info though, thanks.

I also want continuous power and had a similar thought... Has anyone tried installing a jumper in the fusebox to jumper the power from a circuit that is always on to a 12V power outlet circuit? I don't want to short anything out or bypass a fuse... just wondering if anyone has tried anything like this.

I had an auto electrician run a hotwire from the battery to the rear outlet when I purchased the vehicle. He upgraded the cabling to a higher Amp rating, as the factory wiring doesn't always take some of the larger 12 volt fridges. He also installed a switch for it in the front which allows me to turn it on/off independently (great at work for when I need to drive onto a construction site with a plug in flashing light). I wouldn't want to leave a fridge running for too long though just on battery without a dual battery system.

Which fuse is for the power outlets? There are so many and I am 99.9% sure mine is blown because none of the outlets are working....
Fuse #6. Check pages 458 & 459 of your owner's manual.

Any one had luck with this yet? I would like to have full power to the back one (at least) maybe even switched power at the back.
