My '97 T100 with the 3.4 5VZ-fe appears to have a small coolant leak near the top of the thermostat. I suspect this is a leaking water pump, but I'm not sure why the leak would show up that high - it ought to be coming out around the bottom of the timing belt cover, or maybe showing up around the bottom of the thermostat, right?

A piccie of the leak would really help here...really. 
It could be from the bypass tube gasket (provides water to the heater core) or the hose itself. If it's from the top radiator neck...it's just the gasket. If it's from the lower neck where the thermostat is, it could be the water pump itself or the water pump gasket.
Pull the timing cover off and do a visual inspection.
