I brought my mom's solara to the shop last week for new tires and a LONG overdue oilchange (she was 14K over). Anyways our friend owns the shop and I let him put whatever tires he wanted on her car. Cooper Treadsetter's I think. These things SUCK. I mean its a 02 4cyl auto Solara and in the dry I can get the front end to hop on hard acceleration with BRAND NEW tires.

Drove it in the rain yesterday, and I would spin them w/o even driving hard:rolleyes: ......... yeah We shoulda waited a week or 2 and gotten the Falken Zeix I suggested she get.

I can't imagine how bad these will be in snow......or when they are worn down:eek:

Worst thing is she doesnt exactly drive slow for a Mom.........and these things were $70 EACH.

Guy on the Cressida forums swears by these Cooper Weathermaster XGR's for the snow.

I use Cooper Weathermaster XGR's (I get them at cost) I always go with the narrowest tread available. They are a particle grip compound, and I highly recommed the particle ones, they are very good! That's when I absolutely have to be able to go everywhere during any winter weather. if that doesn't matter, I'll take any tires, the less traction the better (as long as I don't get stuck!!)

I have probably more than 20,000kms snowmobile riding experience, so that probably helps me understand the dynamics of ice/snow on the road, That's probably why I love driving in the worst possible winter storms, and I constantly pray for freezing rain or snow all winter long. My corolla is terribly boring on dry pavement, not to mention slow as molasses, but when that snow hits, OH YEAH!!! :D . I'm going to try the "slush and slide" Solo race series this winter, and I can't wait at all!!!
never had experience with them myself, but I've got "Grand Spirit Radials" on the Altima. Junky stuff, wheelspin when you're gassing about as hard as a 3.5k upshift in the rain.

When I bought my car, it had a set of Winston Classics on it, which are made by Cooper. The tyres would skid under routine braking and would spin at the drop of a hat. I mean, I could spin them from a slight roll just by using 3/4 throttle with the clutch already completely engaged. They were supposed to be 80,000 mile tyres, and two were down to the wear indicators at 33,000 miles. The warranty was void because they closed the local Winston tyre store, so my aunt had gone elsewhere for tyre rotations. Before I got my Bridgestone Potenza RE900s (not to be confused with RE92s found on so many factory applications) on '98-'02 Corolla alloys, I had taken a trip on the Winstons... I returned 42.2 mpg on the trip because it rained most of the way and I could not go over 55 mph without the car starting to hydroplane. Scary stuff. Good on petrol, but still scary stuff.

On a side note, the Potenza RE92s on my aunt's and on my grandfather's '02 Camry are worn out out 21,000 and 14,000 miles, respectively. You know they're a shitty tyre when my 84-year-old grandfather is complaining about the lack of grip and being able to peel out with partial throttle in a four-cylinder Camry...

Coopers= suck

But their Weathermaster S/T2 is a fine snow tire. In my old gen2 I could go from a stop in 6" of snow without a hint of tirespin. The tread design kind of rips off the first-gen Blizzaks, and dry grip isn't all too good, but if you're dumb enough to push it on snow tires...:disappoin

Lucked out with my gen3.5 though, the dude threw in four mounted Blizzaks with about 1/2 tread left! Good stuff indeed...

Yeah Ill agree on the RE92's, they are crap too. After 25,000 they were completely bald.

hmmmmmmm, i beg to differ...

i have 2 cooper zeon 2xs's on my fronts and 2 pirelli p7000SS on my back 215/45/17

i really like the coopers- it is harder to peel out than it was with my michelins... and my buddies potenza's feel just teh same, plus the coopers are way less than pirelli, bridgestone, and michelin...
in the rain they have been fine, since we had some huuuuuuuuge rain here in STL the past week or so- i would recoomend them only problems i had with 1 cooper and 1 pirelli was a bubble on the sidewall, but i think that was cuz my dad/bro/or myself hit a curb or pothole

just my 2cents

Falken Xeius Xi326's for me. AWESOME tires. A bit loud, but they outhandle my car (suspension craps out before the tires) and they are great on all surfaces. They were only like $70 a pop.

They are rated as 'preformance' tires, so no milage guarentee, but they seem to handle well.

I cannot get my tires to spin without abusing the car (they grip HARD), so no more burnouts
