Corolla 98 timing chain question

1031 Views 1 Reply 2 Participants Last post by  ToyotaHeart
i was checking out my engine today and notice that the belt was cracking (everywhere). Is that replaceable since its 1zz-fe motor. And which i was told was the timing chain is unreplaceable (or costly and unneeded to do so)? also if the belt is replaceable how much would it cost

It's replaceable. It's a pain in the ass. It wasn't even fun when the motor was out of the car. It'll really scare you when the VVTi cam/servo pops when you are trying to time it! Chain, tensioner, and guides are probably around $200. You'll need some toyota sealant - I find it works best when building these engines - and A LOT of time.
