Corolla Altis 1.6 (AT) - Problem, help!

Hi all toyota experts,

I own a brand new Toyota Corolla Altis 1.6 (AT), 2004 model.
I am from Malaysia.

So far, many people has encounter this problem with 1.6 Corolla Altis. However, no local toyota mechanics could solve this problem.

The car is having this vibrating noise when the car engine is at low rpm (or near idle). The noise is not so loud but is noticeable and it's on and off. I can hear that the noise is coming from the under side of the dashboard of the driver side.

This always happens when the brakes pedal is softly applied. The sound goes like krrrrrkkkk krrrrrkkkkk krrrrrrrkkkk. It sounds like as though something is loose under the steering wheel.

Anyone has any idea at all?

Thanks.

Hi lolipop,

Hope you are still active in this forum. ;)

Just joined today, searched "altis" and found your article.

I am from Singapore and I am driving a 2004 April ALTIS 1.6E.

Pls allow me to suggest the followings.
1) Record the sound using the mpeg feature of your digital camera and play it to your dealer.
2) Insist your workshop to check the under carriage and tighten any loosen parts/fittings.

Good luck !!
