Best candidate would be 1998-1999 non vvti engines if you can find one with low milage.Oil burning issues with the vvti engine are well documented...the reason I avoid them.

Really thats only VVT-I models? I thought that was for all of them, good news tho.

I like the early ones because they don't have variable valve timing makes it a nice simple motor.

Why are you replacing the motor. Is it broken? I would stick with the same model motor you have to make everything simple. Where I am the car has to be 25 years old before you have free reign to do whatever the hell you want to the emissions related equipment.

Actually had problems with oil consumption before it was eventually destroyed in flood.
