So after getting some great advice about the keyless entry I was installing, I am coming back for another question.

My car (1998 Corolla LE) has the cruise control wand/stick on the steering wheel and it has the wiring under the hood for it. But when we pulled off the steering column cover, we noticed the CC stick wasn't connected to anything... the wire was just hanging there. :ugh3:

But here is the problem, I can't figure out how to make them match up? It's like something is missing or someone just removed a part and didn't put it back correctly. :headbang:

These are the connectors that are coming out out from the CC part under the hood.

These are the connectors that are coming from the CC stick in my steering column.

Any one know how to make them match up or am I missing a part? If so, which one and how do I get it?

Thanks!

Those connectors are not for factory cruise. Way different. I know there way a dealer kit for these cars back in the day, but apperently the actuator was mounted under the dash and attached to the throttle pedal/cable. I suspect what you have is not that, but an aftermarket cruise system, or part of one as you found out. Is there an actuator, and any identification on it? Or on the switch stalk?

The cables run to a cylinder shaped metal object right under the wipers motor. Then from that, there is a cable that runs to the throttle and one that runs to the steering column (the first picture).

This is what the CC stick in my car looks like:

That sounds like an aftermaket cruise system then, which I find odd for an LE. If that's an actual photo of your cruise stik, it is on the opposite side of the steering wheel even.

Or, is it possibly actually a 1997, but registered as a '98?

Everything I have tells me that it is a 1998. I even checked the VIN earlier and it even said 98.

No that is not a picture of my stick, but that is exactly what mine looks like and yes it is on the left side...

I've see that exact same stick in a couple 98's in the junkyard. Seems like they all looked stock to me

Thats always the hard part. I thought I saw some of them on the 7th gens too. It looked like it was a dealer installed option as they all looked exactly the same. If you have a junk yard close to you, dig through one and see if you are missing something. Odd that is got unhooked in the first place. I wonder if it was not working?

If I remember, I'll try and get some pics of the parts I do know I have and see if anyone knows what I am missing because I am clueless!

And if anyone knows of a site that sells the CC kits (preferably the factory ones life this), please let me know! Then I can compare it with something.

I have the Toyota aftermarket cruise control kit in my 98 Corolla. I have the installation instructions too that I can send. If anyone can recommend a place to upload the file or I can email, I will do that.

But I do not have a cylinder under my wiper motor. It sounds this cruise control kit works off engine vaccum which is NOT what the Toyota one use. You will need to take more pictures. I do not think that this is a Toyota aftermarket cruise control kit. My Toyota aftermarket kit has actuators that goes under my gas pedal to control my speed.

My Toyota aftermarket stalk is on the left also, but it does not have a light. I have a green CRUISE light that comes lite in my gauge cluster when it activates.

Well, I gotta admit you've got me stumped. I know it is a totally different system than the Canadian built 8th gens are built with, but it also seems to be somewhat common. Maybe try hitting the wrecking yards to see if you find one the same, or maybe someone with the same system would be so kind as to pull the airbag out of the wheel and snap a photo of all connections from the stalk to the clockspring?

It looks like the actuator should connect just fine as the photo shows both male and female 4 pin connectors.
