So I had the dealership install our XM radio when we took delivery of our new 2010 HiHy. Today (about 5 days after we got it) I realized that they put an external magna-mount XM radio antenna on the back wired through the lift gate. Is this normal? I thought that the little antenna thing in the middle of the car was the antenna and I wanted it to be integrated more than doing it myself with an add-on kit (which I did myself on our 2006).

I'm wondering two things:
  • What is the antenna (labeled 1) in the below picture?
  • Is the way in which they installed the XM radio antenna (labeled 2 in the below picture) standard practice for a dealership for an "integrated" system?

TIA

I spoke with the dealership and they admitted / conceded that they should have used the existing antenna. They have to order "a part", which I suspect is a new tuner that is designed to use the existing antenna / wiring. They're going to "make it right". I'm hopeful, but cautiously optimistic. I'm waiting until it's all done and correct to be "satisfied".

I'll update as things progress.
