What are all the trims (CE, LE...) and what is the difference between them? Which one is the base model and which one comes with the most standard features?

First off, they all have the same engine. 120hp 98-99, 125hp(?) 00-02.

CE = "cheap" edition, base model since 2001. Up to 00 there's a VE trim which is even cheaper. :lol: Both gets 175/65/14 tires.
LE = "Luxury" ie. auto only. Someone in the US is known to have 5-speed LE. Lucky bastards. 185/65/14 tires. power stuff, cruise control.
S is just ground effects, spoiler and black interior. 185/65/14 tires, cruise, power stuff all optional. S and LE has color keyed side moldings and mirror. S has fogs.

00+ 125 hp 125 tq
98-00 120hp 120 tq.
(according to msn autos)

VE edition as he said was cheaper then CE and had air conditioning as an optional addition. ce had it standard. just to add some contrast. VE and CE also had 5spd standard, with 3 spd optional. the only cars with the 4spd auto were LE and S and i believe they are optional on LE and standard on S. correct me if im wrong my knowledge is a bit hazy.

ce = classic edition
ve = value edition iirc.

hmm, well I have a CE, its a 5sp manual, all power except the mirrors, other than that it has power locks and windows. And it comes with cruise control too. No fog lights though and the interior is just brown cloth. So my car has about 120 hp?

My 4-spd auto CE is pretty basic to the bone. No power locks, no power windows, no power mirrors, no cruise control, no sunroof. The only special feature it has is the daytime running lights, which I of course disabled :)

Yup, 00-02 has 125HP. all that looks correct. S had color keyed mudguards, LE had black mudguards. S also had slightly larger sideskirts than CE/LE
I live in the usa and had a 5-speed LE (now converted to an S)
MPG ratings for the 02 are 32/41 in 5-speed

I am interested in buying a 1999 VE. It has stock alloy wheels and a power stock moon roof. roll up windows, no cruise. This seems wierd, did they come this way?
The VE model is the lowest base model for 98-99. The original owner apparently only added a sunroof and alloy wheels without bothering to upgrade to power windows and door locks as well. You have an interesting layout.
