I searched the forums and Google for an answer to this question, but didn't get anywhere (broke the TN search script doing it a few times LOL)...

I'd like to fit a wider tire in the back for better traction (street use - Toyo Proxes), and I don't mind keeping the 265 in the front to avoid the rubbing issues. I have my stock O/R lift.

Does anyone see any issues with having a 285 in the rear and a 265 in the front (aside from finding the same wheel design made for both widths). I can't imagine it should be much of an issue since dually trucks have obviously wider rears, but I thought I'd check. I know it's not a good idea on AWD/4WD vehicles, but mine's 2WD so again not an issue.

I have 285/55/20 Toyo Proxes on my truck. Minor rubbing issues.

However, after taking my mudflaps off I didn't notice any rubbing.

BTW - these tires are horrible in the rain. My truck fish tails like crazy with these tires compared to my stock ones.

Thanks! I'm not too worried about rain I suppose - it only rains a few times a year in SoCal, and the freeways have nice drainage - but it's good to know. I plan on riding with a few hundred pounds of ballast in the bed to get some better traction from my rears, so that should mitigate fishtailing in the rain even more.
