I tried to disable my DRL by unplugging the grey plug to the right of the battery but doing this made my headlights unable to turn on at all. The running lights do work though.

Any idea whats going on here? Do i have a problem with my headlights that is masked by the DRL?

Color me curious...why disable that which you don't see? Or not just turn the stalk to off?
