1990 Celica GTS (production date 11/89) had leak through oil seal of distributor into cap/rotor/ignition module. The build up of oil buggered up the module, which in turn has three hall effect sensors for controlling the timing advance by ECU. I have loss of power above 4000 rpm, and only way to improve the power is to advance the timing from 10 to ~15 BTDC to help the start point for the advance. I need a working module, and boy they are hard to locate. The 1990 GTS is the only car that I can find that used these particular Cardone distributors, 31-74424 and 31-74425. Anybody know what the difference of these 2 distributors are? The rebuild kit (seals and bearing) from Kbox fits either one, so I suspect the difference is the module. Does the different modules work/not work with the current ECU programming? Anybody know where to get one of these modules? Dealers want $500+ for the complete package. Some online parts stores have rebuilt ones, but havent gotten a straight answer which exact module/distributor it is.

If I were you, I would use the "CONTACT" section of the Cardone website to ask this question. It is a good question - I didn't know the 1990 Celica 5S-FE had 2 different distributor bodies is use in that model year. I would not know what the difference between the 2 are, but perhaps the CARDONE website can offer assistance.

I have already contacted Cardone several times and they have been of no absolutely no help. Guess I have to bite the bullet and buy a complete distributor, wither new or used.

Here is the data from Toyota on a complete distributor assembly for your 1990 Celica GT-S:

19100-74050 5SFE..ST184 (09/1989 - 03/1990) 1 $531.75
19100-74060 5SFE..ST184 (04/1990 - 07/1991) 1 $531.75

There is a part number difference between cars manufactured up to 3/1990, and those manufactured after 4/1990. What was the manufacture date of yours?

Once you know the date of manufacture of yours, you will know which specific Toyota Part No. is right for your GT-S. Then ask Cardone which of the 2 distributor part numbers they have your your 1990 GT-S match up with the Toyota part number you need. They should be able to figure this out for you.
