I just got the urge to do a tune up on my solara.. Went out to see what plugs I needed, distributor cap etc.. I find, no distributor and on top of the covers some Coil type units and then some very small lead wires going to what look like injector caps? Are the plugs under the coils? are there plugs?? lol.. I just haven't dealt with this in my 54 years on this ol earth..

My Solara repair manual does not mention this engine, the v6 3000 4 cam..

Am I in twilight zone or is there someone out there that can steer me to an informative manual or discussion or thread or something to educate this ignorant Solara lover.. I have had the car over a year and just now found out I do not have a distributor. I love the idea. I jsut wish my repair manual talked about my motor.. Anyone have the actual model number of it? I have looked and looked on line and can find nothing except for vague mention of the distributorless engines..

Thank you for your help, time and trouble..

I have a 1999 Solara SLE,, auto with all the goodies..

The 99 solara just has the regular old 1mz-fe V6 engine we all know and love. There are spark plugs located underneath of the "tubes".

Take a look here if you want more info. http://camrystuff.com/index.php?page=Gen4_Manuals (The gen 4 camry is the same as the gen 1 solara more or less.)

Yeah absoloutly correct the plugs are under the coil units, should be a singly bolt holding each one down , just undo and pop off out the way.
Big thanks for the manuals in the last post cheers.

Man you aren't kidding.. THANK YOU LynchburgCsi for the info, and the manual link---awesome.. And thank you for verifying the plug location Hdynnmo.

So the Solara is the same as a Gen 4.. Isn't that weird that when I bought my repair manual it says nothing about this. Doesn't even mention the 1mz-fe in the entire thing.. I believe in my owners manual that came with the car it doesn't even mention the fact..would have to double check that but I sure don't remember anything about it.

On top of that you think there would be some discussion of this somewhere on the whole whide world web without having to actually post a question in our forum..

I doubt entirely if I am the first dumbo to buy a car and not realize it didnt' have a distributor.. lol.. so you would think I could have found someone discussing it.. I found someone asking about what the 3000 meant in the title V63000 4 cam 24

So is this engine also the VVt- something something motor also? I remember when the new design Celica came out right at the end of 99 I test drove one and wow what a peppy and throaty sounding little machine.. I would love to be able to afford to buy my daughter one of those. She loves those cars..

I raised my daughter on my own for 15 years and she grew up zipping around in my 1985 Celica GTS.. What an awesome little car that was.. Poor mans slow supra... that thing handled like an indie car.. So the newer style supra is her choice of vehicle. can't blame her.. nice nice little machine..

thanks again.. all the best..
