HELP!!!

I accidentally switched around the wires (connected red to black, black to red) and now the plug won't work! I tried putting the original bulb in the socket, but it won't light up anymore! Is there a fuse that I can replace?????? Did I just fuck my car wiring?!?!?
Did you loose the dome, map, courtesy lights, also (among other things)???
If you did, the "DOME" fuse is open [10 amp].
Remove the CCF wiring, you (may) have fried the converter. :sosad:

"A voltmeter is ALWAYS a good check to do, for correct voltage and polarity."

A properly sized fuse in your project(s) power lead is always good protection!!!

^^^, yeah, its the 10a (red) fuse right next to the little itty bitty white thingie right in the middle of the fuse box under the hood.

I blew mine too about 2 weeks ago doing the same mod. I know how you feel. Just replace the fuse, and all is well.

I've also learned, when doing a mod that has to do with wire, take out the fuse to the component you are working on....

You touch two wires together, NO PROBLEM....you took the fuse out, so no blown components. Good luck~

I do still have dome, map, courtesy lights. I didn't check the fuse panel on the driver knee side. I'll do that today after work. Will post findings later on. Thanks!

Gen 6 SE. Does the trunk light have its own fuse? I still have my dome light, map lights, basically all the interior lights including door lights on. I may have just burnt the wiring or the connector. Will have to check later. I hope it's only a fuse, so I can easily replace it and move on with this mod :sosad:

The prints I looked at indicates only the one fuse in the line, but there are a couple of junction blocks and connectors between the fuse and the light, potential trouble spots.

Double check the old light bulb, for proper operation.
I think the SE is wired the same as the LE, just because it is a Gen 6.
Locate the switch for the trunk, it could be there or a loose connection on the lamp socket. A test light probe or voltmeter would save you a lot of time. You might be still getting +12v and just be missing the ground/return (or vise versa). The tester or meter could tell you that, then you would know to look for a fuse or open connection/return to ground.
The +12 volts should be there all of the time, the return/ground is broken to turn off the light. Check the switch located next to the trunk release mechanism at the latch area, if you have the +12v on the lamp socket. There is a diode that sends a sample of the "return" side to the combination meter/dash to warn if the light is out/no voltage if the switch is open(bad bulb/+12v/shorted switch). It acts like the switch is open if you have the +12v.
Good Luck!:)

what's a good place to get those cathodes, do I also need that blue converter thing?

Crimping those wires with terminals is a great idea.

So the POSITIVE RED is towards the front of the car?

Might I suggest going to this website instead?

www.xpcgear.com

And look under case mods at the left.

Their prices are much cheaper than most other places I've seen. I'm in for a couple sets myself.
I found this further back in the tread. Looks great to me, as a good source.!!!!

Can't wait to find the time to do mine. The stock light is SOOOOO Lame!!!!:disappoin

Good luck, WATCH that polarity!!!!

SVC has them for about $6 each, but I don't remember the cost of shipping.

The ballast, that blue thing, comes with the cathode kit.

I don't remember polarity. You should use a DMM to figure that out. You could also see the wire colors behind the bulb holder. A wire that is white and black is ground on Toyotas usually.

Correct. In this case the red wire at the lamp is +12v from the dome 10 amp fuse, and the black at the lamp is the return though the diode then the trunk door switch then to ground.:)

PS: Put at least a 1 amp fuse in the mod. [Protect your investments.]

I put put an 1A slow burn fuse in my install. You can see the fuse holder on the first page. When the lights are on, the kit draws about 700-800 mA but I didn't know if it drew more than that on start-up which is why I put a slow burn fuse.

Where did you buy the slow burn fuse and holder? Could these be purchased in Radio Shack?

On another note, I just checked my bulb socket and it turns out it still works, i just blew out the inverter. Gotta buy new one :(

RadioShack should have the fuse holder and fuses (they are sold separately). You can get them at Fry's too for sure.

Make sure you get the correct size fuse. The GMA fuses (5mm x 20mm) look similar to the ATC fuses (1/4" x 1-1/4").

Either one will work, but the GMA fuse and holder is smaller physically.

Success!

Sorry for the messy trunk. I did notice that when I first pop the trunk, the light is initially dim. It gets brighter, but it takes a while. I do have a 1 amp fuse, as TouringCamry suggested. But I'm glad I did this mod! Next up, lighted door sills!

This is a good mod and I did it on my Gen 4 but I wouldn't advise someone with subs or speakers with good bass to use them because they rattle in the trunk. Unless that doesn't bother you.
