I'll post pictures later, for my install I had the same design of kit as the OP, I used .250 disconnects and hit them with tin snips, they're actually a double thickness of metal where the metal is folded over, I nipped the edges which makes the second "layer" of metal fall off that is folded over. This makes the disconnect really thin and it slips in behind the metal piece in the socket no problem.

The other thing I wanted to tackle was not being able to install both lights symetrically if you want to mount the lights width wise. When I was test fitting the lights I noticed that the tube would fit in the "channel" everyone is running the wires through if the square ends weren't so big. I ended up using a trim saw and hacking off a corner of the square mount for the tube so it would slide into that metal. I ended up with two lights mounted across the width of the trunk, I'm losing a tiny bit of light from the part of the tube that is inside the metal channel but overall it works great.

Hey i wanna do this mod do I need the ballast or no I could just plug the disconnect direct to the led bar wires
if you use LEDs they probably won't use a ballast, they just need the voltage stepped down slightly and limited to prevent damage, if you use CCFL (cold cathode) type lights they have a ballast that you will need to wire up.

The black box used for CCFL lights is not a ballast. Its called a "transformer". Ballast is used for HIDs. Do not get the names confused because you're only confusing yourself.

If you're using LEDs, no need for any transformer. Just plug into socket.

It is not necessary to step down the voltage. Only the current needs to be controlled to prevent destruction of the emitters.

Do I need to remove fuses when I disconnect the trunk light?
You probably don't need to, but it aint a bad idea. Besides if you leave the socket "hot" you will just blow the fuse if you short something any way. I just take out the fuse then there's no power to it to short anything out.
